The biggest talking point of Sunday night’s NBA All-Star game had nothing to do with basketball, and everything to do with Fergie and her performance of the national anthem.

The singer performed a very interesting rendition of Star Spangled Banner before the game – one which the crowd and almost everyone on the internet disapproved of.

Many people on Twitter have branded it “the worst rendition” of all time. Ouch!

This All-Star opening is confusing me. WTF is going on? Anyone?

Literally dying at these reactions. Fergie with the worst rendition ever.

Fergie didn’t give us the national anthem we needed or wanted to hear, but she did give us the national anthem we all deserve in 2018. #NBAAllStar2018

The singer has since defended her performance, telling E! News that she took an artistic risk…

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem, and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said.

“I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone.

“I love this country and honestly tried my best”.

The silver lining in all this is that the one and only Shaquille O’Neal defended her “sexy” performance, so it can’t have been THAT bad…

“Oh, stop, don’t do that. Leave my Fergie alone,” he said.

“Fergie, I love you. It was different, it was sexy.”

Well, at least that’s something.
