Pepsi has finally responded to all the controversy surrounding its latest commercial starring Kendall Jenner – and has decided to remove it from its official YouTube site and even stop all future television airings.
We think that might be the best decision it’s made in a while…
“Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding,” the statement read.
“Clearly we missed the mark and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further roll-out. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
The commercial didn’t get the best reception (understatement of the century!) from social media users, as it was deemed as insensitive to the current political climate, and also – whether it meant to or not – mocked the protests during the Black Lives Matter campaign.
Kendall Jenner is said to be “devastated” with the way in which the commercial was received, and has removed all promotional content for the ad from her website and social media accounts.
“This is the first controversial campaign she has been involved with,” a source told ET Online.
“Even though she had nothing to do with the production and the message of the campaign, she will be blamed for this since she is the face.”
Poor Kendall! Let’s hope that Pepsi’s next commercial will get a big thumbs up from the audience…
