The verdict is in…
To some, being awarded one single US Dollar might not seem like much. But for Taylor Swift, it’s an undeniable victory!
The singer has won her court case against DJ David Mueller, who allegedly groped her backstage at a meet and greet back in 2013.
The DJ initially sued her for $3 Million for defamation and ruining his career, but was unsuccessful due to insufficient evidence.
Taylor asked for the symbolic $1 out of principle, and has also pledged to help women across the world in similar situations who might not have the courage or the financial freedom to speak out against sexual violence.
Regardless of her fame and fortune, Taylor Swift has made it very clear that she is extremely grateful to everyone who helped her achieve this victory…
“I want to thank Judge William J. Martinez and the jury for their careful consideration, my attorneys Doug Baldridge, Danielle Foley, Jay Schaudies and Katie Wright for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year long trial process,” Taylor Swift said in a statement.
“I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself.
“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organisations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves,” she added.
And we believe her. Congratulations for winning the court case, Taylor!
