Avril Lavigne has been noticeably absent for the past few years, and she has just revealed the terrifying reason why.

The Canadian singer revealed that she has spent the past two years bedridden while battling Lyme Disease.

The singer explained that she had felt “achy, fatigued and could not get the f**k out of bed” while touring back in 2014, and was diagnosed with Lyme Disease shortly after.

“I was in bed for f**king two years,” she said in an interview with Billboard magazine.

“It went undiagnosed for so long that I was kind of fu**ed,” she added, before explaining that antibiotics had failed and the disease had morphed into a cystic form.

The 33-year-old songstress explained to the magazine that she tried to hide the condition for as long as possible, and even tried to make a failed comeback in 2015…

“I put on a brave face because I didn’t want it to be a part of my identity,” she continued.

“So the second I was up, I would take a picture and post it on Instagram and act like my life was fu**ing great.”

Her comeback in 2015 may have failed, but the Sk8er Boi singer has revealed that she is ready to make another go of it.

“I spent the last few years at home sick fighting Lyme Disease. Those were the worst years of my life as I went through both physical and emotional battles,” she wrote in a letter which she shared with fans just last month.

“I was able to turn that fight into music I’m really proud of.

“I wrote songs in my bed and on the couch and recorded there mostly as well. Words and lyrics that were so true to my experience came pouring out of me effortlessly.

“Truly… by keeping my spirits up, having goals to reach and a purpose to live for, my music helped to heal me and keep me alive.

“The first song I am choosing to release is called Head Above Water,” she wrote.

“It is also the first song I wrote from my bed during one of the scariest moments of my life. I had accepted death and could feel my body shutting down.

“I felt like I was drowning. Like I was going underwater and I just needed to come up for air.”

Her brand new single is entitled Head Above Water, and an album will reportedly be ready in 2019!
