The most recent A Star Is Born movie could have been very, very different if Barbra Streisand got her way…

According to reports, Barbra Streisand – who starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born – revealed that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper weren’t actually the first choices for the 2018 remake of the 1954 original movie starring Judy Garland.

Instead, the legendary 79-year-old singer and actress said that Hollywood bosses originally imagined Beyoncé in the leading role way back in 2011, with none other than Leonardo DiCaprio starring opposite her, and Clint Eastwood directing. Now that would have been very different!

However, the plans changed quite a lot in the many years down the line, resulting in Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper taking on the now-iconic roles.

And Barbra Streisand has made no secret of the fact that she would have actually preferred to see Beyoncé in the lead (although she previously mentioned that she thought Lady Gaga’s performance was “wonderful”) with Will Smith taking on Bradley Cooper’s role, as it would have been a very different and “original” spin….

“At first, when I heard it was going to be done again, it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyoncé, and I thought, that’s interesting,” Barbra said on Australian talk show The Sunday Project, noting how the 2018 version is very similar to her 1976 one as opposed to the Judy Garland original.

“Really make it different again, different kind of music, integrated actors. I thought that was a great idea.

“So, I was surprised when I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976.

“I thought it was the wrong idea. I can’t argue with success but I don’t care so much about success as I do originality.”

However, despite wanting to see very different leads originally, Barbra Streisand had nothing but high praise for Lady Gaga’s Oscar-nominated performance…

“I loved it,” she previously told Extra after watching the movie.

“I think it is wonderful. She is wonderful. Bradley told me he spent months with her working to see her real self.”

Although we are obsessed with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, we’re not hating the idea of a Beyoncé and Will Smith version as well.

If someone wants to make this happen, we would be eternally grateful…
