It’s just been announced that Rooney Mara has been cast as the late Audrey Hepburn in a new biopic about the Oscar-winning actress’s life!

Rooney Mara – the two-time Oscar-nominated actress perhaps best known for starring in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and also dating Joker star Joaquin Phoenix – will also be producing the Apple Studios biopic, which is set to be directed by Call Me By Your Name’s Luca Guadagnino, with the screenplay reportedly being written by Michael Mitnick.

However, not everyone is happy with the casting news, as the internet believes the starring role should have gone to none other than Emily in Paris star, Lily Collins, as she bears a much more striking resemblance to the Breakfast at Tiffany‘s star.

“Lily Collins living in a timeline where an Audrey Hepburn biopic is being made and NOT being cast as her is absolutely baffling,” a fan wrote on Twitter when the news was first announced.

“Lily Collins needs to play young Audrey Hepburn,” another fan added, while another Twitter user said, “lily collins will always be my audrey Hepburn.”

While we do agree that Lily Collins would have also been a great choice, we have no reason to doubt Rooney Mara’s acting ability, or what can be achieved by the Hollywood hair and makeup departments. After all, if Lily James has been transformed into Pamela Anderson and Kristen Stewart has pulled off a Golden-Globe-nominated portrayal of the late Princess Diana, we believe that anything is possible!

Not all of the comments were against Rooney’s casting though…

“Lily Collins is a wonderful person and a sparkling actress, but I’m not mad Rooney Mara will be playing Audrey Hepburn,” another fan wrote on Twitter, which many other social media users agreed with.

So how do Audrey Hepburn’s loved ones feel about the casting? If we are to believe the reports, Sean Hepburn Ferrer – Audrey’s son from her first marriage to Mel Ferrer – didn’t actually know the project was happening until the rest of the world did, but he said that he has faith that Rooney Mara will do his late mother justice.

“I was not aware of the project,” he reportedly told Fox News Digital.

“Rooney is a delight. Sounds like there is a lot of love there,” he added.

We can’t wait for more details about this movie, and will keep you updated as and when we get more info! Do you think Rooney Mara is a good fit for the role?
