Ed Sheeran has just announced that he is self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19!

The 30-year-old singer took to Instagram to break the news to his fans, while also telling them that, where possible, he will try and do some of his already scheduled interviews and performances from home via video link.

“Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines,” he wrote.

“It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house. Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone,” he continued.

The Shape of You singer was due to perform on Saturday Night Live on Saturday October 30, but according to reports, performing via video link isn’t something SNL are interested in, and they are desperately “scrambling” to find a replacement musical guest. Yikes!

“Ed is offering to perform live via video link, but this isn’t something SNL does,” an insider told Page Six.

“The show likes to have the performer in studio,” they added.

Names like Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes have been discussed as rumored potential replacements, although nothing has been confirmed yet. And who knows, Ed Sheeran may be the show’s very first musical guest to perform via Zoom – we are living a ‘new normal’ life after all!

Let’s hope that Ed Sheeran’s COVID diagnosis doesn’t delay the release of his brand new album. = (pronounced ‘equals’) is currently due to be released on October 29. Get well soon, Ed!
