Devastating news this morning, as Naya Rivera has been reported missing following a boat trip with her four-year-old son in Southern California.

Ventura, California authorities have presumed that the former Glee star drowned, after her son, Josey Dorsey, was found alone on a boat in Lake Piru.

The four-year-old – who Naya shares with her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey – told police that his mom had gone for a swim in the lake and never came back.

According to reports, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department stated that the 33-year-old rented a motorized pontoon boat for an afternoon of swimming. Authorities were called once the actress and her son failed to return the rental boat after the three hours they had paid for had expired.

“They found her boat adrift with Naya’s 4-year-old son asleep on the boat and Naya was nowhere to be found,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department told US Weekly.

“This is an active investigation. It is believed that Naya and her son were swimming in the lake near the boat and as they were getting back into the boat, her son made it into the boat and Naya went under water and did not resurface.”

When her son Josey was found, he was still wearing a life vest. It’s assumed that Naya was not wearing one when she went into the water, as an adult-sized life vest was found on the boat, alongside her purse, and food.

“When the boy was found, he had a life vest on, which is California law,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Captain Eric Buschow said.

“There was another vest on board the boat for an adult, so it looks like she was not wearing a vest.

“He came up and got back up on the boat, but she did not.

“He was found on the boat by a passerby. He was found fast asleep on the boat by himself.”

Captain Eric Buschow told The Los Angeles Times that Josey was “unharmed” when he was found…

“He’s in good health. The family is going through a very traumatic time right now,” he said.

Many of Naya’s Glee co-stars have taken to social media to ask for help during this traumatic time…

“We need all the prayers we can get to bring our Naya back home to us,” Heather Morris, who played Brittany Pearce on the show, wrote on Instagram.

“We need your love and light.”

Harry Shum Jr. tweeted, “Praying.”

Josey is now with Naya’s family, and the search and rescue operation – which will involve drone teams, divers, and sonar equipment – is still going ahead.

“It’s still a search and rescue operation based on the circumstances,” Captain Eric Buschow added to US Weekly.

“The fact that she was seen in the water shows there is a high likelihood that she drowned.

“All indications point to that, but we are not there yet.”

Our thoughts are with Naya’s family and friends during this devastating time.
