Huge congratulations to Taylor Swift, as she received the biggest prize of all – the Artist of the Year award – for the third year in a row at the American Music Awards last night. And the sixth time in total, may we add.

Oh, and she also won the award for Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock category, as well as the Favorite Music Video award for Cardigan.

However, the 30-year-old singer wasn’t available to attend the virtual ceremony, which left fans wondering where she was and what she was doing…

Luckily, Taylor Swift didn’t leave fans guessing for too long, as she told them exactly what she was up to after thanking them for voting for her for Artist of the Year…

“Thank you so much for this. This is a fan-voted award, which means so much to me,” she shared.

“You guys have been beyond wonderful all the years of my career, but especially this one, when we’ve been so far apart, we haven’t been able to see each other in concert, but I still feel really connected to you through the music.

“Your reaction to Folklore and all the ways in which your imagination honored that album, I just love you so much and am really, really lucky because of you.”

And now for the reason she had to give the AMAs a miss…

“The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually re-recording of all my old music, in the studio where we originally recorded it so it’s been amazing, and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” she clarified.

“Have a great night. I love you so much.”

Just to recap, Taylor Swift is currently re-recording all of the old music she made with her former record label, Big Machine Label Group, as it went against her wishes and sold the master recordings from her first six albums to music mogul Scooter Braun (he manages the likes of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande among others) after he bought the label.

According to reports, she sold them on to a private equity firm for an eye-watering $300 million last month.

We have a feeling that her fans will understand her absence, especially because new music – or new recordings of old music, more accurately – is on the horizon.

Thank you for sharing, Taylor – and once again, congratulations on being crowned Artist of the Year for the third year in a row!
