Surprise, Halsey is pregnant!

The You Should Be Sad singer was actually and unsurprisingly full of joy when she broke the news on social media, sharing a gorgeous picture of herself which showed off her growing baby bump.

“Surprise,” she wrote, alongside the picture and a series of emojis.

Eagle-eyed Instagram users will notice that one of the emojis was a rainbow, which everyone assumes is a reference to the term “rainbow baby”.

The term refers to a healthy baby who is born after the mother suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth previously. Halsey ran with the rainbow theme, as she was also wearing a rainbow top in her announcement picture.

The 26-year-old singer shared the painful news that she had miscarried back in 2015 while she was in concert, and has also been very open about her struggles with fertility due to her endometriosis. She was diagnosed with the condition just before discovering she was pregnant almost six years ago.

“The next thing I knew, I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” she said, when appearing on the daytime talk show The Doctors back in 2018.

“And the sensation of looking a hundred couple teenagers in the face while you’re bleeding through your clothes and still having to do the show.

“In that moment, I was like, ‘I don’t ever want to have to make that choice ever again — doing what I love, or not being able to because of this disease. So I put my foot down, and I got really aggressive about seeking treatment and had surgery a year ago, and I feel a lot better.”

We love how open she is about her struggles, as we think it could help the hundreds of millions of women around the world who suffer.

According to endometriosis.org, it affects roughly one in ten women of reproductive age, which adds up to around 176 million women in the world.

In February last year, she told The Guardian that experiencing a miscarriage was “the most inadequate” she had ever felt…

“Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do,” she continued.

“Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing.”

Fast forward to 2021, and Halsey is telling a much more positive story! We couldn’t be happier for the singer and her boyfriend/baby daddy, screenwriter-producer Alev Aydin.

He was also delighted with the news, writing, “Heart so full, I love you, sweetness.” on Instagram. Halsey then replied, writing, “I love you!!!!! And I love this mini human already.”

Congratulations to the proud parents-to-be!
