Halle Berry has not only dropped out of playing a transgender character in an upcoming film, but she has also apologized for even considering it.

The 53-year-old actress came under fire for telling fans that she was contemplating playing the role of “a woman that transitioned into a man” in a new movie.

Her comments received a lot of backlash from the LGBTQ+ community, as she not only misgendered the character during her description but by accepting the role, would be taking the opportunity away from a trans person.

However, she has now apologized for even considering the part, and agrees that the “transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories”

“Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to discuss my consideration of an upcoming role as a transgender man, and I’d like to apologize for those remarks,” the actress wrote on Twitter.

“As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role, and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories.

“I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days and I will continue to listen, educate and learn from this mistake.

“I vow to be an ally in using my voice to promote better representation on-screen, both in front of and behind the camera.”

Her original comments were part of an Instagram Live interview she did with hairstylist Christin Brown. During the interview, she told her fans about her potential new role, in particular how the character was “so interesting” to her…

“It’s a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man,” Halle Berry originally explained.

“This project got pitched to me right when I was on the brink of making Bruised and making my directorial debut and I so was in the mindset of getting in the body to play that… But this got pitched to me, and I thought, after I do this movie, that’s the character I’m going to play.

“Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project, and that will require me cutting all of my hair off.”

LGBTQ activist group Glaad has since praised Halle Berry’s decision to step away from the role…

“We are pleased that @halleberry listened to the concerns of transgender people and learned from them. Other powerful people should do the same,” Glaad wrote on social media.

We wonder who will get the role instead…
