It’s been three years in the making, but Kanye West is finally attempting to make Ye official!

According to reports, the 44-year-old rapper and fashion designer has officially filed documentation to legally change his name from Kanye Omari West to Ye. No last name or middle name; just Ye…

We were first introduced to the nickname Ye on his 2012 single Clique, which featured Jay-Z and Big Sean.

The multi-billionaire reportedly filed the documents at the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week, citing “personal reasons” for wanting to change his name. He, along with the rest of us, is now waiting for a judge to approve it.

We aren’t totally shocked by this news though, as he announced the unofficial name change on Twitter way back in 2018 – and his friends, family, and fans have been calling him Ye ever since…

At the time, he wrote that he was “the being formally [sic] known as Kanye West. I am Ye”.

He also went into more detail about his choice in an interview that same year…

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us,” he said in a radio interview at the time.

“It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”

Kanye clearly took the name very seriously, as Ye was the name of his 2018 album.

His brand new album, entitled Donda after his late mother, is due to drop this week.

We wonder if the name change will affect the four children he shares with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, who is still using the last name Kardashian West…
