Megan Fox says she hasn’t touched alcohol since 2009 – and she recalled the exact experience that made her come to that decision…

Speaking to Who What Wear, the 35-year-old actress said the “belligerent” comments she made at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards are what made her want to quit alcohol for good.

The Midnight in the Switchgrass actress recalled how drinking too much champagne at the Golden Globes – because she was nervous about attending the ceremony for the first time – caused her to say things she shouldn’t have said on the red carpet.

She even went as far as to say that she got in trouble for some of her comments…

“I was sat at a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas Brothers,” Megan began.

“At the Golden Globes, they always put those giant bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne on the table. I went through multiple glasses of that.”

She then went on to say that as a result of drinking too much champagne, she made some “belligerent” comments on the red carpet. And that, she confirmed, is why she no longer drinks…

“I said a bunch of s*** I shouldn’t have said on the red carpet,” she added.

“Now I don’t drink, and this is why.

“I got in a lot of trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at this event.”

In case you’re wondering, the comment which got her in trouble is most likely occurred when she was talking to Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet…

Megan Fox told the presenter that she felt “embarrassed” and “insecure” in her Ralph Lauren dress on the red carpet, which is why she tried to calm her nerves with the champagne.

When Giuliana Rancic told Megan Fox that she was “one of the hottest women in the business right now,” the actress joked that she felt she was “a doppelgänger for Alan Alda”, and followed up with an outdated term that is now considered offensive to the LGBTQ community.

(We’ll let you do your own digging to find her original comments if you so wish. However, the term “crossdresser” is now deemed the appropriate replacement for the original, offensive term.)

“I’m a man,” she continued at the time.

“I’m so painfully insecure. I’m on the verge of vomiting right now.

“I’m so horrified that I’m here, and I’m embarrassed. I’m scared.”

We’re glad that Megan Fox realized and learned from her mistakes!
