Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s iconic Super Bowl Halftime show in 2020 went down in history – but little did we know that just 24 hours prior, Shakira was having one of the biggest hair disasters of her life!

The 44-year-old singer sensationally revealed that she simply wanted to touch up her color the night before the performance, using the same hair dye she had always used. However, her hair accidentally turned jet black, which led to hours and hours of emergency intervention from her hairstylist. To quote Shakira herself, there was a lot of “drama”…

“You wouldn’t believe what happened to me the night before the Super Bowl,” the She Wolf singer told Glamour UK.

“So I was dying my hair the night before the Super Bowl, with the exact same hair dye that I use every time. And that night, my hair decided to turn black!

“It was also my birthday. It was almost midnight. And of course, the next day I had to be up and ready and perfect and fresh. But no, of course, there had to be some kind of drama, especially before the Super Bowl! I was freaking out.”

We’re not surprised! We can’t believe she held it together for her halftime performance – we would have had no idea if she hadn’t said anything!

Shakira told the mag that the correction process wasn’t easy, and the products her stylist had to use were actually very irritating on her scalp…

“We had to dye it again, using 40 volume peroxide water. My scalp got really irritated,” she continued.

“A lot of stuff happened after that.”

She even joked that her hair can sometimes be “the biggest source of suffering” in her life…

“I couldn’t even begin to tell you, things that happen to me only happen to me and my hair,” the Hips Don’t Lie singer concluded.

“But I will tell you something, my hair does really cruel things to me because it’s always keeping me on the edge, but it also survives a lot. It’s very resilient.”

We would take a few hair disasters if it meant we got to have Shakira’s lusciously long, voluminous, and totally enviable locks. And we actually think the black hair would have really suited her had she decided to keep it… just sayin’!
