Seems like there’s been some confusion surrounding some comments Mel B made recently…

Rumour had it that the former Spice Girl turned America’s Got Talent judge would be checking herself into rehab to deal with alcohol addiction and sex addiction – two things she had spoken of very openly in the past. However, it seems the press misunderstood (shock!) what she was getting at…

“I’ve been in therapy since my father got diagnosed with cancer nine years ago,” she told guest presenter Lea Michele on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“But no, I’m not an alcoholic. No, I’m not a sex addict.

“I was with the same person for 10 years and that was quite a turmoil, very intense. That’s all I can say about it. I’d like to say a lot more, but we’re on this show—let’s keep it P.C.

“I address a lot of those issues [in new book Brutally Honest] and I did kind of have to ease my pain…I do suffer a lot from PTSD.”

And it was her announcement in British tabloid The Sun which might have confused people…

She told the newspaper that she wanted to go through a “proper therapy program”, but it is not, she repeats is not, for sex or alcohol addiction.

“I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” she told The Sun.

“I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain, but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on.

“Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol—it is underneath all that.”

“I am still struggling but if I can shine a light on the issue of pain, PTSD and the things men and women do to mask it, I will do.

“I am working on being a better version of myself for my kids—whom I love more than life itself—and for all the people who have supported me.”

Well we think – and hope – that’s cleared things up!

Mel B’s book Brutally Honest is slated for release in November.
