Gary Oldman’s ex-wife Donya Fiorentino has slammed the Oscars Academy for giving her ex-husband an award after she accused him of physical and emotional abuse during their four-year marriage.

Gary Oldman won the coveted Best Actor accolade on Sunday night for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour – something which Fiorentino thinks is extremely hypocritical when the Oscars were supposed to be protesting sexual abuse with the Time’s Up and Me Too movements.

“Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one, but two abusers with Oscars,” Donya Fiorentino told TMZ.

“I thought we had evolved,” she added.

“What happened to the #MeToo movement?”

It’s more than likely that the other “abuser” she is referring to is Kobe Bryant, who was charged with sexual assault back in 2003. He won the Oscar for Best Animated Short for Dear Basketball on Sunday night.

Gary Oldman’s spokesperson Douglas Urbanski has denied all allegations of “spousal abuse” and added that the actor is a strong supporter of the Time’s Up and Me Too movements.

“Referring to the painful lie about ‘spousal abuse’, regarding recent recirculated old rumors, and an apparent coordinated smear campaign, there are those with suspect motives who circulate this story hinting that there is some truth to it,” Gary Oldman’s spokesperson said in a statement.

Anyone who circulates this story is doing so with complete rejection of the facts, malice, and is doing so with defamatory intentions.

“The #TimesUp and #MeToo movements — good, honest, and critical movements — aimed at addressing Hollywood predators who have abused women have also unfortunately given a platform to some to misuse the importance, validity, and urgency of the movement.

“Gary Oldman passionately and strongly supports the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements and the long-awaited correction of these abuses.”

Let’s wait and see how this story develops.

Looks like the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is following in the footsteps of this year’s Golden Globe Awards, as the actors and actresses attending the ceremony have been asked to wear black to protest sexual harassment.

“More than half of all women and nearly two-thirds of women in the UK aged 18 to 24 have experienced sexual harassment at work,” read a letter which was circulated amongst the attendees.

“We hope that those of us privileged enough to have a platform can use it to raise awareness of the experiences of women beyond our industry, whose experiences are often silenced and marginalized.

We can expect the likes of Emilia Clarke (pictured above in a fine black frock), Daisy Ridley, Emma Watson, Keira Knightley and Emma Thompson – among others – to walk the red carpet in their finest black attire for the Time’s Up movement. Men will also be expected to wear special pins and/or buttonholes.

And it’s also worth noting that Stephen Fry will not be hosting, as he has been replaced by none other than Joanna Lumley. Interestingly, this is the first time in over a decade that the prestigious ceremony has been hosted by a woman.

Coincidence? We think not!

The BAFTA will take place on February 18.
