Tyra Banks has just been announced as the brand new host of Dancing with the Stars.

Former America’s Next Top Model host will be replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews when the show returns to our screens for Season 29.

And she’ll also act as an executive producer too, in a bid to take the popular dancing show in a “new creative direction”.

Naturally, Tyra Banks is thrilled with her new gig, although she does acknowledge that she does have some pretty big shoes to fill following Tom Bergeron’s departure from the show…

“I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning,” Tyra Banks said.

“The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances…it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk.

“Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

Tom Bergeron has been hosting the show since Season 1 in 2005, with Erin Andrews joining him as his latest co-host in 2014. If his social media is anything to go by, it seems like he wasn’t aware of the show’s new creative direction and Tyra Banks’ role as host until a few days ago….

“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me,” he wrote on Twitter.

“It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made.

“That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”

However, according to a statement from the network, there don’t seem to be any hard feelings about the departure, and having a new host was simply about taking the show in a new direction…

“Tom has been an integral part of the ABC family for nearly two decades, from hosting ‘AFV’ to ‘Dancing with the Stars’ — we are grateful for all he and Erin have done to make ‘Dancing’ a success,” said Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment.

“As we gear up for the show’s 29th season, we can’t wait to welcome Tyra Banks to our ‘Dancing’ stage. Tyra is an award-winning multihyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark.

“Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”

We think that Tyra Banks is a fantastic addition to the show. She has created reality TV gold not only with America’s Next Top Model – the show which she created, hosted and executive produced – but also as the host of America’s Got Talent in 2017 and 2018.

And let’s not forget the success of her Emmy-award-winning talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, which ran from 2005 to 2010…
