This is one of our favorite slasher kind of horror films. It was executed cleverly and with deadly wit. The movie starred world-class movie stars such as Courtney Cox to Drew Barrymore. The combination of these big names made this scary movie a fan-favorite hit. And ever since its release, it still continues to be a hit film to date.

The movie revolves around this girl names Sidney whose mom gets murdered. A year later, more murders start to occur. Sidney begins to suspect that there is a relation between these new murders and her mom’s murder which occurred a year before. So, she sets out to find the killer. In this thrilling horror movie, everyone appears to be a suspect.

What you learn in this film is never to get near any man in a mask. The other words of caution – don’t ever say “I’ll be right back” because no one comes back “right back”.

To show you just how great the film was and how much contribution is made in the horror genre, there have been 3 sequels since the original 1996 film – Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011). Plus there is also a TV show based on this film.

2. Get Out (2017)

It may have made it on our list of Halloween movies. But Get Out isn’t your normal kind of horror flick. It addresses issues dear to American’s today: racism and racial identity. And what it shows is how we are still far when it comes to understanding each other’s identity.

When going to meet the parents of his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams), Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who is a black photographer, is anxious about being a black man going to be introduced to a white family. No amount of convincing that the family was ok with him being black was enough. And true to his fear, the parents had sinister motives behind the invite and as the movie progresses, the racism dynamics get creepier and creepier.

Rose’s mother offers to hypnotize him in order to help him quit smoking which takes him to a ‘sunken place’ where much as his consciousness is somewhere within him, his body is paralyzed. All this hypnosis is a ploy to transplant the consciousness of white people into healthy black people through literal brain surgery.

This new-ish movie Jordan Peele’s masterpiece quickly became a horror classic that uses the white exploitation of Black people as a medium for paranormal horror. With the all the racism surrounding America today, this one of the must-see scary movies to watch on Halloween

3. Hubie Halloween (2020)

This movie makes it to the top Halloween movies to watch in 2020 because for one it is a 2020 movie. It is a Netflix original starring comedian Adam Sandler who plays a community volunteer as he sets to uncover a Halloween-flavoured mystery. Right down to the voice of his character, it seems to be like some of Sandler’s classics like The Waterboy.

Sandler plays Hubie Dubois, a guy who works in a deli in Salem, Massachusetts. Hubie is a devoted volunteer of the community. Besides being good-natured, he finds himself to be the object of the community’s mockery and meanest pranks.

When he goes to a local Halloween party to keep an eye on the activities of the day things suddenly turn sour. He finds himself in the middle of a real investigation as he tries to uncover a real murderer.

4. The Sixth Sense (1999)

This is another one of the most popular classic Halloween movies. It has a famous quote – “I see dead people”.  Starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment, this psychological thriller and paranormal drama follows the life of a nine-year-old boy, Cole Sear, who like the famous quotes indicates, sees dead people and communicates with them. These visitations and hauntings by ghosts of people with unresolved issues really frighten him – considering they appear from dark shadows.

A child psychologist, Malcolm Crowe (played by Bruce Willis) tries to help him seeing as he is the only one Cole can be open with about his anguish with these ghosts. They go through some unexplainable experiences as they try to uncover the truth about Cole’s supernatural abilities. Plus there are some consequences for trying to dig into the supernatural world.

5. The Exorcist (1973)

This one is on our list of Halloween movies because we are scared of horror stories that centre around demonic possessions. This is one of the most profitable scary movies ever made. And what makes it even scarier is that it is loosely based on real-life events.

The story is about the demonic possession of a young girl, Regan, who starts acting eerie – from speaking in tongues to floating in the air. Her mother tries to seek medical help in vain. A local priest, however, believes that the girl may be possessed by the devil and satanic forces and decide to perform an exorcism. This job proves not to be an easy one!

6.The Addams Family (1991)

If you are looking for kid-friendly classic movies to watch on Halloween, then you need to consider The Addams Family – a wacky family with frightening faces. If you watched it as a kid, then you probably remember that catchy theme song at the back of your mind. Put this family movie and teach your kids this tune.

YouTuber Tana Mongeau has been under a lot of fire because of her past racist behavior she directed towards her friend Kahlen Barry. That seems not to be the end of it. More allegations are being hurled at her. Tana, 22, has also been accused by another YouTuber Nessa Briella, who also calls herself SimplyNessa15, for racist microaggressions, together with her manager, Jordan Worona.

Who is Tana Mongeau?

Tana Marie Mongeau is an American Internet celebrity famously known for her YouTube “Storytime” videos as well as comedy videos. She is also a musician and a model. Just like many other YouTube personalities, Tana has had her fair share of internet controversies as well as backlash. The main issue people have with her is making racist remarks. She seems to have been rubbing people the wrong way with these remarks.

With 5.7 million YouTube subscribers and counting, Tana Mongeau has been uploading her YouTube videos since 2015. These fans of hers tune in weekly in anticipation to watch the next video. In 2019, this YouTube sensation became even more popular courtesy of her controversial videos. Tana’s first video  “Hairdresser from Hell?”, has more than 3.4 million views up to now.

As her channel gained more popularity, Tana started collaborating with other famous YouTubers such as Cody Ko, James Charles, David Dobrik, Shane Dawson, and Josh Peck.

What brought her more fame was when she tweeted in 2017 that she wanted to date Bella Thorne. The pair met up 2 days later and shared the photo of them kissing on Instagram, just to break the internet as she put it in one of her videos. Tana admitted openly and honestly how that single photo changed her life. And that same photo is when led to her and Bella Thorne beginning a real relationship. Tana once claimed that she had always been 100% straight until she met Bella Thorne.

What are the accusations against Tana?

Now, apparently, Tana has stepped on some of the YouTubers because of some of her controversial videos. Apparently, in her video Dear Tana Mongeau, she claimed that Youtuber Nessa Briella was backbiting her. So, Tana used these claims and called her crazy, implying that she had anger issues.

She also called Briella a schizophrenic YouTuber, an illness that Briella has never been diagnosed with. Then apparently whenever the two met face to face, Tana would act like everything is just cool with them and then continue making the schizophrenia claims when they are not together.

The pair joined the YouTube scene at about the same time. In fact, Briella is the one who introduced Tana to her manager, Jordan Worona, who signed Tana immediately.

Now according to Tana, Jordan Worona is the one who continued pushing the rumor that Briella had mental issues. He allegedly called her schizophrenic YouTuber in the hopes that Briella becomes alienated to anyone who associated with Tana or himself. He even went to the extent of dropping Briella, who is African American as a client, then introduced her to a manager who was supposed to “get her”. Turns he was introducing her to a manager who is black.

Racism accusations against Tana

I will tell you for free that this is not the first time that the YouTuber is being accused of racist remarks. Kahlen Barry, a former friend, and fellow Youtuber accused Tana of gaslighting when they were preparing an old YouTube video channel “Trash”. This was between 2012 and 2014. Barry swears that her comments came from a racist place.

Apparently, she kept using racist slurs when they working together via tweeter, Snapchat, and other social media live streams. When Barry called her out about her racism, she downplayed the accusations, calling him an “angry Black person.”

That didn’t stop there. Immediately after Barry released his video, some of the old tweets resurfaced. Besides other racial remarks, Tana called her own BFF, Imari Stuart, a “cotton picker” who needs to “go back to the plantation.”

Has Tana ever issued any apologies for these racism allegations?

One thing she did was to own up to her mistakes. Immediately after Barry’s’ video went up, Tana apologized to him immediately in a string of tweets saying that she was sorry if she ever said anything that made him feel like she was being racist and said that she will also spend a lifetime showing that she is not a racist individual. However, she took a bit of time before making her apology. She claimed that she took long with her apology post because she was trying to find the right words to address her apology and do it in a way that no one would get hurt any further. Apparently, her silence meant that she was trying to educate herself on the best way to handle the apology.

Now much as talked about spending a lifetime making it up to Barry, Barry says that it has been short-lived. Tana has gone silent and has been ignoring his messages. He had sent her a DM on June 22 asking her if she wanted to do a Livestream but she didn’t respond. He was ‘ghosted’ again on June 24.rry said he doesn’t believe that Tana’s apology tweets were genuine saying she actually never took the responsibility for her behavior. He believes she did it publicly just to save face.

On July 10^th, Tana also mentioned that she was working on videos that would address her issue with Briella. This she talked about on her Instagram Stories and assured her fans that she was aware of the tweets they sent, asking her to address all those accusations. Tana’s fellow YouTube influencers have been pressuring her to do so.

All these racist allegations especially concerning black people have been gaining momentum because of the Black Lives Matter movement. In their Instagram stories, Barry and Briella highlighted the frequency of racist microaggressions in the influencer industry. SO, they were hoping that Tana would own up to it.

She said she will be making several Tana Mongeau YouTube videos in the coming weeks and promised to fully and honestly address those accusations about Briella. She also insisted that she will be taking full responsibility for the wrongs she has done in the past. She is hoping to come up with the best way to show people exactly who she is.

But Barry and Briella feel like instead of posting loads of Tana Mongeau YouTube videos speaking about her side of the story, they just want her to take a step back and give them an ear. Apparently, they had asked her not to make a video but she went right ahead and did it, Bara feels she isn’t listening to Black voices in the least.

As the calls to speak about her accusations and racism are increasing, even with the Pandemic, Tana has just been partying in LA. Commenters have criticized her for attending a party with 70 other influencers where none of them were not only not social distancing but also not wearing masks. She and Erika Costell, who is her ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend were said into the camera that they “don’t care” about the tension they had between them before. Unfortunately, it was taken to mean that they didn’t care about following the public health pandemic guidelines. Her fans expressed even more disappointment in her.

Several commentators who call out racial issues such as Cherita Gaskin have accused Tana of performative activism on their YouTube Channels saying she should remove “Black Lives Matter” from her Twitter name because her actions don’t reflect that. Glee actress Samantha Marie Ware called Tana out for not acknowledging Barry’s pain directly. She talks about how Tana won’t be the last person to mistreat people of color like Barry and Briella as people of color face microaggressions daily. But influencers like them have the vehicle to openly talk about it.

Initially, Barry was nervous about the kind of responses and reactions he would get for posting the video. Besides wanting to tell his own story he also wanted people to become aware of deeply-imprinted racism that people of color have to endure from white people.

The truth of the matter is that microaggressions can be direct or indirect. How someone behaves towards someone else from a minority group is how one can tell that they are prejudiced. You don’t just have to wait to hear someone utter the N-Word for you to know that they are prejudiced.

White people who are racist need to be openly called out when they deliver microaggressions. Most of them want to appear good and tolerant so when they are openly called racists, it scares them. It spoils their self-image. It’s the only way they will realize that they might have unconscious intolerance and biases that hurt people of color.

When some of these things like what Tana has been doing to her fellow Black YouTubers happen, some people might say that it wasn’t racist, probably rudeness. The thing is, subconscious feelings of bias towards a person of color is what it is – microaggressive… hence racist.

What is a platonic friendship? This a friendship where two people in the relationship, usually a female and a male are close friends but without there being a sexual engagement. It’s basically friends without benefits. The relationship between the male and the female is usually based on pure mutual respect. There is love between the two, but its not the romantic kind.

Read on as I discuss this topic and let you know why it is very possible to have a male and female non-sexual friend relationship.

Do platonic male and female friendships work?

Given the above definition of what is a platonic friendship, the only way that this relationship can work is when the man and the woman do not have attraction between them, or if they no longer have attraction feelings. It becomes hard for a platonic boy and girl friends to work if one of them develops feelings of attraction for the other person. It changes the whole dynamics of platonic friends

Well, let us examine the dynamics of platonic best friends and the different types and ways such friendships between a man and a woman can develop.

Purely Platonic Friends

Is it natural and possible for a man and a woman to bond together simply and purely as friends? Is it possible to maintain such a relationship for years to come on a purely mutual respect level?

When I think about it, the celebrity couple that pops in my head is Kanye West and Kim Kardashians. This is a couple we have featured here on Love is All Colors regularly. Well, the had been friends for years. And it was purely platonic – or so did Kim Kardashian claim. Now I wonder when they started developing feelings for one another. After years of failed relationships, they probably realized that a romantic relationship is possible based on the friendship that they had.

Now is one of the cases where attraction develops. It can be mutual. And sometimes, one person develops romantic feelings and attraction for the other. Like I said the only way a best friend is platonic is when the romantic attraction between the male and the female is not there. There are those individuals who manage to remain just as friends, no attraction whatsoever.

Such platonic boy and girl friends are usually there for one another. They navigate through the ups and downs that life throws at each one of them together. They have pure and genuine love. The kind of love that a family shares with one another. This kind of pure love never develops into a sexual attraction for one another.

This kind of best friend platonic will provide you with constant and consistent love and support. This is the friend you call when something is wrong and will leave whatever they are doing to come to your rescue. Healthy boundaries are maintained throughout the relationship.

From exes to platonic

There are those instances when two people who had a good connection as a romantic couple break up amicably. Normally it could be because they just couldn’t make it work or they probably had irreconcilable differences.

If they were close and had a true friendship and connection besides their underlying romantic one and things ended in good terms, this sometimes develops into a purely best friend platonic relationship.

Now, this is something that both parties need to agree upon… converting the romantic relationship into a pure friendship one. No sex expected or involved. This however can be a bit tricky especially if they meet someone new. Feelings of jealousy from the new relationship can arise. There might be an assumption from the new girlfriend or boyfriend that you are probably not over one another.

You need to however discuss all this with your ex and determine the dynamics of the relationship. Make sure that both of you are on board and that the sexual attraction that you both had for one another is over. Otherwise, you will only be lying to yourselves.

Here are some of the things to consider and discuss whether or not to have a platonic friendship with your ex.

• Is your ex comfortable with the idea of being platonic friends?
• How should the relationship be like and what are the boundaries?
• What if one of you re-develops romantic feelings in the process? How are you going to handle that?
• Decide to break the platonic best friends relationship if one of you is no longer comfortable with pursuing it any further.
• Consider the possibility of new partners and the fact that they might be jealous. In such a case, agree to distance yourselves from each other.

Make sure after you have agreed to transition to a best friend platonic friendship to keep checking in on one another regularly in order to make sure that both of you still feel comfortable moving forward.

How to deal with attraction in platonic relationships

In most cases, an attraction can develop between one or both individuals. See, Kim and Kanye above. That happened to them. Now if both of you feel the attraction, then you need to discuss if it is safe to transition to a romantic relationship.

If only one party develops romantic feelings, the one who doesn’t needs to be honest with the other person. You might have to make hard decisions about how to proceed. Having a crush when a  best friend is platonic, it can be quite hard on the person with the crush if the feelings are not mutual. Much as the other person might not have reciprocal feelings its important to come right out and say it. However, you need to consider the possibility that mentioning it might jeopardize your relationship.

There are those instances when the attraction feelings are mutual. Well, you also need to consider that there is a possibility that if the romantic doesn’t work, things might never be the same again. It’s a risk both of you are taking of potentially losing your friendship altogether.

Before you even consider turning your platonic friendship to a romantic one, discuss this together and come up with a plan of how you will deal with one another in case it doesn’t work out. If on the other hand, you decide that the platonic male and female relationship is too important to jeopardize, take some time off spending too much time with one another until the feelings subside.

Conclusion:

Do platonic relationships work? Well, that depends. They usually don’t work for everyone. There are considerable instances that these relationships can be maintained until death do them part. It is possible to successfully have a friend of the opposite sex without the sex being in the picture.

One thing you need to ask yourself when considering or agreeing to a platonic relationship is whether there is some attraction between the two of you. Before you begin or consider a platonic relationship, think about the romantic relationships in your life.  Will they be affected if you decide to move forward with building this type of relationship.

How important is this friendship to you? In the case of a jealous spouse, which one will you choose? A jealous spouse over your friendship or the other way around? Well if your platonic friend has been in your life before meeting someone new, always remember to come clean about their existence to your new partner. Establish from the word go that having a platonic relationship is OK with your new partner. You are better off letting them know sooner so that you can make a choice sooner rather than later when the new relationship starts transforming into something serious.

Years before people started advocating and fighting for same-sex marriages, people had to fight for interracial marriage. There was a controversial law against miscegenation which meant race-mixing was forbidden and unlawful. Most states especially the Deep South states banned interracial marriages. But much as they were the most notorious ones for banning miscegenation, many other states had a law against interracial marriages too. In fact, a good example is the state of California which prohibited race-mixing until 1948.

Well, let’s take a look at how things turned around for interracial relationships and the right to marry…

How the 1967 anti-miscegenation law came to be overthrown

It wasn’t just about people being uncomfortable with race-mixing. Even politicians made it a point to outlaw mixed marriages in the U.S. by amending the U.S. Constitution. They even used to use the Christian religion in a bid to emphasize just how bad race-mixing.

Most of these anti-miscegenation laws were focused on mixed marriages between Blacks and Whites. But after a while, it was all about banning marriages between whites and minorities. Well, let’s take a look at this young couple that shook things up and made interracial marriage possible.

The Loving story

Richard and Mildred met when he was 17 and she was 11. They are the interracial couple that always takes the number one spot because their marriage overturned state laws in the United States that prohibited interracial marriages.

At 18, she realized she was pregnant so they ran off to get married.

One day, the cops burst into their Virginia home and went to the young couple’s bedroom demanding to know why the couple was together. According to Mildred, they asked Richard who the woman he was sleeping with was. Mildred replied, “I’m his wife”. The sheriff told her, “Not here you’re not.”

The couple was charged for miscegenation and thrown in jail. Richard was released the next day but Mildred had to stay a little longer before being handed over to her father. A local judge sentenced Richard to a year in prison declaring:

“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red and He placed them on separate continents, and but for the interference with His arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages.”

It was just five weeks after they were married that they were arrested. They pleaded guilty in 1959 and were sentenced to one year in jail.

The judge lightened the sentence by asking them to choose jail term or leave the state for good. So the Lovings moved to Washington, D.C., and got a marriage license. But much as they could love freely, they longed to return to their home town.

The couple decided to fight to be able to be man and wife in Virginia. They sued the state and their case (Loving v. Virginia) went to the U.S. Supreme Court. On June 12, 1967, the court ruled unanimously in their favor. 1967 anti-miscegenation law was lifted. The infamous ruling laid the foundation for the right to marry outside one’s race.

Richard later said, “For the first time, I could put my arm around Mildred and publicly call her my wife.” He died in 1975 at 41. Mildred died of pneumonia in 2008, at 68. There is a yearly celebration called Loving Day on June 12, the anniversary of the 1967 United States Supreme Court decision.

Ever since things have changed for the better. According to the Pew Research Center, 12% of all new marriages in 2013 were interracial; and the numbers keep rising…

First interracial couple after interracial marriages were legalized

Gloria and Leroy Griffith were among the first interracial couples to benefit from the 1967 anti-miscegenation Supreme Court’s ruling of the that saw the end of the ban of interracial marriage. Lucky for them, interracial marriage had just been legalized in the South and had the privilege of having a public interracial wedding in 1969.

They dated for a year and decided to get married.

Excited as she was, marrying a white man was a huge risk even to her family. Gloria’s mother had to send them to seek the approval of Gloria’s grandparents. They eventually got their blessings. As Leroy puts it, Gloria’s grandfather raised his hand saying, “…this marriage is chosen by God and I’m with you all the way!”

Much as they had these blessings, not everyone was supportive of their engagement. Getting a church to perform the ceremony proved difficult. Since the church Leroy preached was too small, they had to ask other Presbyterian churches which were bigger. They got turned down by the two they asked. They decided to have the wedding outside, officiated by a pastor from out of town.

Their union offended even strangers. Gloria recalls an angry person who called threatening to bomb them. Another said he would burn them out.

Even so, others were supportive; some asking for permission to attend their wedding because they had never experienced an interracial wedding before. They let it open to the public so that those who wanted to see history being made could. However, they were still concerned about violence.

Thanks to Mildred and Richard Lovings fight for civil rights and the infamous Supreme Court ruling that laid the foundation for the right to marry outside one’s race, today, Gloria and Leroy are still married. Their marriage has had a lasting impact in Chattanooga, Tennessee. And to this day, they still fight for social justice. And they still do it together…

The loving film

Richard and Mildred Loving are the interracial couple being featured in the true-life drama film, “Loving, 2016”. Richard and Mildred got married in 1958 in Virginia when interracial marriage was outlawed in that state.

The movie hit the big screen on Nov. 4 2016 and couple was played by stars Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton.

However, its films such as Loving that bring hope to colored talent. During the first press screening of Loving in May at the Cannes Film Festival, the film elicited awards-season talk.

The film has also been the inspiration behind the interracial couples emojis of all races and genders.

Richard died in 1975 at the age of 41 after his car got hit by a drunk driver, whereas Mildred died of pneumonia at 68 in 2008. Before her death, she opened up about the bond she and Richard shared. She said fame isn’t what made them fight the state; love did. They just wanted the right to love freely.

“Not a day goes by that I don’t think of Richard and our love and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the ‘wrong kind of person”, Mildred said.

Who would have thought then that their story would make history or become a movie? Well, if it weren’t for their fight, I can’t imagine what the state of interracial marriages would have been today. We are glad they fought the fight for us, and they got the right to marry whomever one wants despite race. We might not be 100% expecting but I believe someday, we will get there. Well, since the Oscars on Sunday night, Natalie Portman has come under fire for her protest. Critics have called her “hypocritical”, as her own production company hasn’t hired any female directors either – apart from herself.

“Some thoughts on Natalie Portman and her Oscar ‘protest.’ The kind of protest that gets rave reviews from the mainstream media for its bravery. Brave? No, not by a long shot. More like an actress acting the part of someone who cares. As so many of them do,” Rose McGowan’s lengthy Facebook post began.

“I find Portman’s type of activism deeply offensive to those of us who actually do the work. I’m not writing this out of bitterness, I am writing out of disgust.

“Natalie, you have worked with two female directors in your very long career- one of them was you. You have a production company that has hired exactly one female director- you. What is it with actresses of your ilk? You ‘A-listers’ could change the world if you’d take a stand instead of being the problem. Yes, you, Natalie. You are the problem. Lip service is the problem. Fake support of other women is the problem.

“There is no law that says you need to hire women, work with women, or support women. By all means, you do you. But I am saying stop pretending you’re some kind of champion for anything other than yourself.

“Until you and your fellow actresses get real, do us all a favor and hang up your embroidered activist cloak, it doesn’t hang right.”

It’s usually the children who suffer the most when parents get divorced…

According to reports, Brad Pitt will only be seeing half of his children this Christmas, as Maddox, Pax, and Zahara Jolie-Pitt have chosen to not spend any time with their father over the holidays.

Reports even go on to suggest that 18-year-old Maddox and 16-yer-old Pax are “not on speaking terms” with Brad Pitt at the moment. Could this be something to do with the plane incident – where Brad Pitt was supposedly violent towards Maddox – a few years ago? No one really knows for sure.

But what we do know – according to several sources – is that 13-year-old Shiloh, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne will be spending time with their dad this Christmas. And it will be the first time since the divorce in which a “monitor” won’t be present in the house…

“Brad’s planning on having the younger kids [Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne] on Christmas Eve,” a source told US Magazine.

“He’s hoping they’ll want to spend the night, but he’s really just looking forward to Christmas Eve with them.”

Maddox might not even be spending Christmas with his mother Angelina Jolie, either…

Reports state that he is currently studying at Yonsei University in South Korea, and it’s not yet known whether he, along with 14-year-old Zahara, and Pax, will spend the holidays together with their mom.
