When coronavirus hit us, all that changed with lots of international bans.  The ‘weakness’ of the fashion industry was literally exposed. Even the 2021 wedding trends are expected to change because weddings have now become smaller because people are expected to be social distancing.

We are now longing to see what will be new. Designers must be going through lots of pressure this year. But one thing we have not forgotten is how fashion can be inspiring. Initially, I am sure lots of people were excited about not having to wake up and dress up for work every morning. But after a while, that narrative got boring. People started wearing makeup for their zoom meetings working from home. Fashion is one of the things that at least kept most of us going.

We are now seeing lots of “lockdown looks” uploaded on various social media pages. The lockdown has really inspired a lot of people. Just wearing beautiful clothing can be very uplifting. Much as fashion houses had to scale down their production, we are still seeing lots of creativity on shows just before the lockdowns. So if you are wondering what clothes to wear in winter 2020 then you will love this article that we have prepared for you.

One thing we know about winter fashion is that we will be dressing up to go nowhere. Gold was very prevalent in runways. Well, let’s dive in and check out winter 2020 fashion trends.

It doesn’t matter what the designer is. What we are seeing in winter clothes 2020 is that the sleeves are now really balloony and pumped with lots of ruffles and gathers. So if you want to make a statement this winter, the bigger and pumped up the sleeves are, the better.

Gold is not just a piece of jewelry anymore. Gold has taken over the runway and in homes as the pandemic goes on, We started seeing the gold pieces on runways in February with models wearing glistening gowns. So if you want to gift someone during this holiday season or just getting something for yourself, then know that there is a gold rush and that is a color that will not disappoint you this winter. Rihanna has issued an apology to her Muslim fans for using a sacred Islamic verse as the soundtrack to her latest fashion show.

The 32-year-old Bajan singer and fashion designer showcased her latest Savage x Fenty lingerie collection on Amazon Prime last week, and the Muslim community almost instantly took to social media to voice their concerns over her choice of music.

Rihanna had used the 2017 song Doom by Coucou Chloe, which included a remixed version of the Islamic Hadith playing alongside it as her models walked the runway.

The Islamic Hadith is a written record of the sacred words and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, coming second only to the Quran, the holy book of Islam, in terms of textual authority…

“As a Muslim, no words can describe how disappointed I am with Rihanna for letting her models dance to hadith,” a Muslim fan wrote on Twitter.

“Hadith are the sacred words of our prophet, you can’t just use it for your lingerie show. Disgusting and extremely disrespectful.”

Rihanna took to Instagram to thank people for bringing the oversight to her attention, and to apologize profusely for causing offense…

“I’d like to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive in our Savage x Fenty show,” she wrote on Instagram after learning of the backlash.

“I would more importantly like to apologize to you for this honest, yet careless mistake.

“We understand that we have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this! I do not play with any kind of disrespect toward God or any religion and therefore the use of the song in our project was completely irresponsible!

“Moving forward we will make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

“Thank you for your forgiveness and understanding, Rih.”

London-based Doom producer Coucou Chloe also issued an apology on social media…

“I want to deeply apologize for the offence caused by the vocal samples used in my song ‘DOOM’. The song was created using samples from Baile Funk tracks I found online,” she wrote on Twitter.

“At the time, I was not aware that these samples used text from an Islamic Hadith.

“I take full responsibility for the fact I did not research these words properly and want to thank those of you who have taken the time to explain this to me.

“We have been in the process of having the song urgently removed from all streaming platforms.”

We’re glad that both Rihanna and Coucou Chloe have apologized.

Finally – some good news for Mary-Kate Olsen!

The 33-year-old’s plea for an emergency divorce from Olivier Sarkozy, her husband of five years, was originally rejected by judges, as they deemed it “unessential”.

(Despite it feeling very essential to her, as her soon-to-be ex-husband was in the process of kicking her out of their shared New York apartment and throwing all of her belongings away.)

However, the actress-turned-fashion-designer has refiled for divorce now that the courts in New York have officially reopened. Or more accurately, now that the courts are allowing divorces and lawsuits to be filed online.

But it might not be smooth sailing for Mary-Kate, as insiders reportedly claim that Olivier Sarkozy is not to be messed with. Especially if his divorce from first wife Charlotte Bernard is anything to go by…

“He sees himself as the alpha male. He will get even more French as he fights her,” an insider told Page Six.

“They can turn cold very fast on their wives once the relationship is over.

“Olivier seems like a fun guy when you meet him but he is a shark. Very tough…He’s not somebody you want to go up against.

“His divorce from his first wife got very messy for a while and they really went after each other. Don’t underestimate him if it gets messy with Mary-Kate.”

He may be tough, but we think that Mary-Kate just might be tougher. According to a source (via US Weekly), she insisted on “an iron-clad prenup” before tying the knot with the 51-year-old banker…

“Her business interests and fortune are protected,” the source continued, adding that she and twin sister Ashley Olsen have an estimated net worth of $500 million.

Victoria Beckham came under fire earlier this month, following her decision to furlough 30 of her fashion brand’s employees.

However, the 46-year-old former Spice Girl has decided to reverse the decision to use UK taxpayer money to pay 80% of her staff’s salaries, as she is reportedly “devastated” by the backlash.

An insider hinted that the initial furlough decision wasn’t one which Victoria made personally, but one which was made by senior management and shareholders…

“The original decision to furlough wasn’t actually hers – it was more a board thing, and she was persuaded that it was the right thing to do,” a source told The Sun.

“Obviously she now realises this is wrong. Victoria realises she still has some way to go when it comes to endearing herself again with the great British public, but she is going to do her position and influence to start giving more back.”

Victoria Beckham’s company issued an official statement to confirm that she will not be using the government’s furlough scheme to cover her employee’s wages…

“Victoria Beckham Ltd has been working hard to protect its people and, while adjusting to the impact of Covid-19 and the Government lockdown, our decision to furlough a small number of our staff seemed the most appropriate option in keeping with many other businesses,” read an official statement from Victoria Beckham.

“The situation is dynamic and, with the support of our shareholders, we now believe we can navigate through this crisis without drawing from the Government furlough scheme.

“Our application was made in the best interests of trying to protect our staff, and that is still our absolute focus. We are doing everything we can to ensure we can achieve that without using Government assistance.”

Another spokesperson also weighed in about the dramatic U-turn…

“We’ve now reconsidered and we accept there’s a better way forward for our business,” they added.

“These are tough times and tough decisions and we don’t always get it right – all we can say is we are trying to protect our business and our staff.”

According to reports, Victoria Beckham has not paid herself a salary since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Victoria Beckham has faced enormous criticism for furloughing 30 of her fashion staff, despite having a personal fortune of over £355 Million.

The 46-year-old former Spice Girl turned award-winning fashion designer has been slammed for taking advantage of the UK government’s Coronavirus bailout scheme to pay 30 of her members of staff, despite having the funds to cover their salaries herself.

According to reports, the UK government will cover 80% of her fashion staff’s salaries as part of the tax-payer-funded scheme, while Victoria Beckham herself will cover the remaining 20% with an “enhanced package”…

“We are working hard to ensure our much-valued Victoria Beckham team are protected during this unsettled time by keeping our business healthy,” a spokesperson for Victoria Beckham told The Mirror.

“Having carefully assessed all our options, we made the decision to furlough a proportion of staff on an enhanced package.”

Employers are not obliged to pay the remaining 20%. But even so, VB has understandably come under fire for using the emergency bailout scheme, which was put in place to help people struggling with the effects of Covid-19, when she has more than enough in the bank.

“This furlough scheme is not for prima donna millionaires,” Piers Morgan said while referring to her Victoria Beckham fashion brand as nothing more than “a vanity project”.

Piers Morgan wasn’t the only person to weigh in…

“At a time when millions are struggling, it would be good if multi-millionaires helped the country rather than seeking to profit from hard-pressed taxpayers,” Tory MP Robert Halfon told The Daily Mail.

“It is extremely regrettable that a prominent figure in the fashion world has taken this step, given the many selfless acts we are seeing across the country every single day,” fellow Tory MP Tom Hunt added.

“One minute she and David are posting pictures of very expensive bottles of red wine on Instagram, the next she’s using the furlough scheme, funded by taxpayers,” an undisclosed source close to the Beckhams told The Daily Mail.

“She has also been seen clapping the brave NHS workers, but by using the Government scheme she is taking public money when she has hundreds of millions in the bank. It seems very ill-advised,” they added.

Christmas has come early for Chanel Iman, as she has just given birth to her second child!

The 29-year-old Victoria’s Secret model and her 26-year-old New York Giants star husband, Sterling Shepard, have welcomed their second baby into the world – a little girl called Cassie Snow Shepard.

Earlier this month, Chanel told the world that she was expecting a girl, which she announced during her all-white winter wonderland themed baby shower.

The beaming new parents shared the happy news with an adorable snap on social media.

“Our Christmas gift came early,” Chanel Iman wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of her beautiful family in the hospital.

“Cassie Snow Shepard 12•17•19.”

Chanel and her husband are already proud parents to daughter Cali Clay, who they welcomed in August 2018. They tied the knot in March 2018, after meeting at Victor Cruz’s 30th birthday party back in 2016.

And just like Cali Clay, Cassie Snow already has her very own Instagram page if you can believe it! A social media influencer already in the making? Perhaps…

On again/off again couple Bella Hadid and The Weeknd are sadly off again…

According to reports, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – have broken up for the second time, with “distance” listed as one of the alleged reasons for their split…

“They are in different places right now, physically and mentally,” an insider told E! News.

“Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut.”

The source added that their conflicting schedules caused them to argue a lot more than usual, which contributed to their decision to split…

“They have been arguing a lot recently,” the source added.

“They haven’t spent quality time together in months.

“They hope to get back together at one point but for now are focusing on themselves and their projects.”

We hope so too!

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd were first linked at Coachella back in 2015, and dated for a year and a half before ending things in November 2016. The Weeknd then dated Selena Gomez from January 2017 to October 2017, and started getting close to his ex just one month later.

It wasn’t until July 2018 that things became official again, with the 22-year-old supermodel moving into the 29-year-old musician’s New York condo in October. Engagement rumours even started flying in November last year, with a source telling US Weekly that “a proposal is on the horizon”.

While we no longer hear wedding bells, we are confident that this isn’t the end for these two lovebirds.

We think that after some time apart – and with some luck regarding their busy schedules – Bella and The Weeknd will rekindle their romance in no time!

Victoria’s Secret has taken a huge step forward, as it has finally hired its first transgender model!

Brazilian beauty Valentina Sampaio has made history, as she has become the first ever openly transgender model to work with the famous lingerie brand.

The 23-year-old model was described as a “glamorous standard-bearer” for the transgender community when she appeared on the cover of French Vogue back in 2017.

And we imagine that the entire LGBTQ community will be jumping for joy when they see her appear in the ad campaign for Victoria’s Secret’s Pink line.

Valentina broke the news about her new job on her Instagram account, as she shared a picture of herself wearing a pink bathrobe, with the caption, “Backstage click @vspink”.

The news of Valentina’s exciting new role comes almost a year after chief marketing officer Ed Razek made some extremely controversial and derogatory remarks about why the brand hasn’t featured curvy or transgender models…

“Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy,” Razek told Nicole Phelps in an interview for Vogue.

He later issued an apology, which many people deemed ‘too little too late’…

“My remark regarding the inclusion of transgender models in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show came across as insensitive. I apologize,” Ed Razek said at the time, as part of his apology.

“To be clear, we absolutely would cast a transgender model for the show. We’ve had transgender models come to castings… And like many others, they didn’t make it… But it was never about gender.

“I admire and respect their journey to embrace who they really are.”

Is Valentina Sampaio’s new job part of Victoria’s Secret’s plan to revamp and overhaul its image? We revealed last week that the 2019 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has reportedly been cancelled due to last year’s poor viewing figures, and the brand would be receiving a huge make-over.

There’s still a long way to go, but we definitely think Valentina Sampaio appearing in the new Pink ad campaign is a step in the right direction!

Kim Kardashian has won her lawsuit against fast fashion company Missguided, after accusing them of constantly using her likeness to sell almost identical pieces.

Kim filed the lawsuit against Missguided USA back in February and accused the company of unlawfully using her face, body, and name to advertise their products.

She also accused them of ripping off designs she had worn just hours after she had first been snapped in them.

“Missguided has repeatedly used Kardashian’s name and likeness without permission on its social media platforms to promote the sale of its clothing,” the judge ruled, according to TMZ.

Back in February, Kim pleaded with fast fashion companies to stop ripping off her clothes, in particular, a gold shimmery dress which was made exclusively for her by her husband…

“Going through old fitting pics & found this gold look that Kanye made for me for my Miami trip last summer,” she wrote on social media.

“P.S. fast fashion brands, can you please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off?”

However, Missguided didn’t listen to her plea, and within hours came up with a similar look…

“The devil works hard but Missguided works harder @kimkardashian,” the company wrote on Instagram in a caption featuring the dress in question.

This isn’t the first time Kim has spoken out against fast fashion companies ripping off other designers.

“It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas,” she wrote on Twitter, referencing the vintage 1998 Thierry Mugler dress she wore to the Hollywood Beauty Awards which was ripped off by Fashion Nova less than 24 hours later.

“I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.

“So, as always, don’t believe everything you read and see online. I don’t have any relationships with these sites. I’m not leaking my looks to anyone, and I don’t support what these companies are doing.”

Well, there you have it!

We hope she is happy with the outcome of her lawsuit – despite reportedly originally seeking $10 Million in damages.
