Brad Pitt is opening up about his sobriety. And he isn’t holding back!

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor spilled the beans in a very revealing interview with The New York Times, telling the publication that his decision to go sober came after his marriage to Angelina Jolie ended…

“I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privilege,” the 55-year-old said, before revealing how the men in his Alcoholics Anonymous meetings really inspired him…

“You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard.

“It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself.

“It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself. There’s great value in that.”

Brad Pitt reportedly spent a year and a half in Alcoholics Anonymous, after 44-year-old Angelina Jolie filed for divorce back in 2016.

And his time in AA wasn’t the only opportunity he got to reflect on his dark moments, as he also “opened up those boxes” while filming Ad Astra.

The upcoming movie – which is out later this month – is about an astronaut (Brad Pitt) in search of his father (Tommy Lee Jones), which gave the actor time to revisit his past and come to terms with his emotions…

“The fact is, we all carry pain, grief and loss,” he said, referencing his role in the space movie.

“We spend most of our time hiding it, but it’s there, it’s in you. So you open up those boxes.”

You can catch Brad Pitt’s performance in Ad Astra when it hits cinemas from September 20.
