Getting to know that new romantic connection in your life is so much fun. However, in the beginning, it can be hard to know what questions to ask since you don’t know anything about them.

It’s always nice to have a list of handy, fun questions ready.

Below is a list  you can ask to break the ice. Feel free to use some or all to get to know your new special someone better. Enjoy!

  1. What three cities or parts of the country would you never move to, under any circumstance?

(…even if you were offered your dream job to live there?) This one’s fun, because it not only tells you a lot about the person you’re asking, but it also opens the door to all sorts of great follow up questions. And of course, if you’re from one of the places on the “no-go” list, or want to live there someday, then it helps to guide your decision.

  2. How old were you when you started drinking and enjoying coffee?

coffeeIf you’re a coffee aficionado yourself, it opens the door to more questions about brands, flavors, etc.

  3. Morning person, or night owl?

This one’s fun, but also more important than you might think, especially if you’re looking for someone with long term relationship potential.

  4. Who was the biggest role model for you when you were growing up? Who’s your biggest role model now?  What changed?

A great multi-part question that gives you a view into the arc of the life of the person you’re talking to.  It’s just as interesting to find someone who has the same role model now as he or she did in childhood as it is to find someone whose role model has changed considerably over time, and opens the door for lots of interesting conversation!

  5. If money and career weren’t standing in your way, where would you want to live, and why?

It seldom happens, but if you run across a person who answers this question the same way (or nearly as) you would, that’s a huge bonus, for obvious reasons!

  6. If you could pick any one super power, which one would you pick and why?

super powersIt’s amazing how much light this one sheds on a person.

  7. You just won a million dollars in the lotto. What do you do with it?

    An oldie, but a goodie!

  8. Name one thing you completely suck at. Name one thing you’re insanely good at.

Always nice to know, and most people aren’t comfortable talking about the things they’re not very good at, which can be illuminating all by itself.

  9. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever watched all the way through on Netflix?

netflixA good way to gauge if your weird and his or her weird are vibrating at something close to the same frequency.

  10. Do you have any scars? How did you get them?

It has been said that scars are tattoos with better stories.  This is a great way to get the scoop on them.

Of course, there are plenty of other great questions to ask someone as you’re just getting to know them. These will certainly get you started!
