Nearly a quarter of a billion people use Twitter, but of course, some use it better than others.  If you’re new to the game, and don’t really know who to follow, or why, here are a number of recommendations.  Sure, you can find plenty of interesting people to follow by trial and error, but this takes most of the guesswork out of the equation.

Below are the ones we stand by:

Whiskey Foxtrot @FollowWhiskey

One part whimsical, one part headlines, and one part fabulous DIY projects, Whiskey Foxtrot is a great blending of popular culture and hard-nosed practicality, rolled into a single Twitter feed.  Always informative, and almost always entertaining, this one’s not to be missed.

Anne T. Donahue @annetdonahue

A writer for MTV, Anne graces Twitter on a regular basis with her whip-smart humor and some of the best, quirkiest observations you’ll find online.  Plus, some of the art she includes with her Tweets is amazing.  Great feed, and definitely one to add to your collection.

Lane Moore @hellolanemoore

A stand-up comedian who Tweets some amazing insights about life, random commentary from the road, shares jokes, and offers up plenty of advice and commentary on romance.  The lady has a way with words, and if you’re looking for someone to add who’s sure to make you smile, this is the one you want.

Counting Crows @CountingCrows

Counting Crows’ lead singer Adam Duritz manages the band’s Twitter account, and it’s filled with videos, random observations, and fun stories.

Lich King Michael @TheLincoln

A writer and editor whose tweets are brimming with wit.  He loves poking fun at unfortunate typos in internet headlines, and can always be relied on to deliver a daily dose of good-natured snark.  Great stuff.

Pretty Handy Girl @PrettyHandyGirl

Not only does Brittany have a fantastic collection of video tutorials on Youtube, his North Carolina-based general contractor has an awesome Twitter feed that supplies a regular dose of do-it-yourself goodness for anybody who’s interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty.

DIY Network @DIYNetwork

Another fantastic, content rich feed for do-it-yourselfers of any skill level.

Upcycle That @upcyclethat

If you’re always on the lookout for clever ways to repurpose everyday household items, rather than throwing them out, then this Twitter feed will fit you like a glove.  Guaranteed to give you a daily dose of thought provoking tweets.

Richard Branson @richardbranson

The quirky, always entertaining bazillionaire has a fantastic Twitter feed that’s filled with good information and surprisingly down to earth insights.  One of the best feeds going!

Beautiful Pictures @BEAUTIFULPlCS

A Twitter feed that delivers exactly what the name says it will.  Adding this one to your feed will give you a daily dose of some truly stunning pics.  Well worth adding.

Al Yankovic @alyankovic

Yep, seriously.  Weird Al’s Twitter feed is both quirky and insightful.  You definitely won’t be sorry for adding him to your collection of feeds.

NASA @NASA

What could be better than science fiction in real life?  The NASA Twitter feed may not be for everyone, but if you have any interest at all in science, space, and exploration, then this one will really make you happy.

There are, of course, countless of other feeds that are worthy of your attention.  The list above doesn’t begin to scratch the surface, but if you add any of the above that catch your eye, you won’t be disappointed!
