Despite the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex asking their well-wishers to donate to charities as opposed to giving them wedding presents, the newlyweds have racked up a whopping £7 Million worth of wedding gifts.

And the worst part is that they will have to return each and every gift, as it’s actually against the rules. Who knew?!

“When gifts are accepted, the consent of the member of the Royal Family should be contingent upon the enterprise undertaking not to exploit the gift for commercial purposes,” read a statement from Kensington Palace.

“Gifts offered by private individuals living in the UK not personally known to the Member of the Royal Family should be refused where there are concerns about the propriety or motives of the donor or the gift itself.”

In other words, the Royals don’t want to be bribed, and the receipt of a wedding gift, no matter how big or small, could be seen as a form of bribery, whether intended or not. Makes sense, we guess…

Some of the organizations which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle encouraged well-wishers to donate to support women’s empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the Armed Forces.
