The seemingly never-ending “who will be the next James Bond?” after Daniel Craig debate is far from over – and another celebrity hat has just been thrown into the ring. More accurately, this particular celeb has tossed his own hat into the ring, if you can believe it…

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has just revealed that he wants to appear in the next Bond film (whenever that may be). But not in any old role – he’s only interested in the title role!

Yes, The Rock wants to be 007 himself – and we think it might just be one of the best ideas we’ve ever heard!

“I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond,” the 49-year-old wrestler turned actor told Esquire, in reference to Daniel Craig, who has played Bond since 2006.

Johnson already has some experience with the James Bond franchise, as it sort of runs in the family. His grandfather Peter Maivia played a Bond villain in the 1967 James Bond film, You Only Live Twice, where the late Sean Connery played the role of the iconic spy.

But The Rock insisted very quickly that he isn’t interested in following in his grandfather’s exact footsteps…

“I don’t want to be a villain,” he added. “You gotta be Bond.”

Well, that’s that then! Is there a petition we can sign to make The Rock the next Bond?
